October Update

Happy Fall, Y'all!

(even though it doesn't feel like it yet...)

I wanted to make sure you're aware of a few upcoming events.

*Thursday, October 6 is Picture Day. Order forms should be coming home soon. If you want to order in advance, go to mylifetouch.com and you can order using your child's ID or Picture Day ID: EVT2FVGBB

*Wednesday, October 12 is the PSAT for 8th graders. This will happen in the morning, so please make sure eat a good breakfast at home or get to school early enough to eat their free breakfast here. Testing usually starts by 8:30.

* Thursday, October 13 is the end of the first nine weeks. Please make sure you're checking up on grades with your child. Skyward Link

*Friday, October 14: No School! (Teacher Work Day)

*Wednesday, October 19: CTE Pfuture Ready Event

*Saturday, October 22: Fall Education Symposium

Once we return to school on October 17, we'll begin our career cluster rotations! Students will be working in stations to delve more deeply into careers of interest. This is my favorite part of this class, and I hope they enjoy it as well. Hopefully, they'll come home and share what they learned, (but I realize that's a long shot.)

FREE FISH TO GOOD HOMES. :)

My Bristle-Nosed Plecostomus and my Albino Plecostomus became parents this summer to over 200 babies. I've found homes for most, but if you have an aquarium and would like one, (or two, or five), I still have about ten or so that need a place to live. Send me an email and we can make delivery arrangements.

This isn't one, but it's what they grow into. ;) These babies are between 1-2" long right now.

RED RIBBON WEEK

The week of October 25th we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week. We will have lessons and activities planned for that week. Below are the Dress up days for that week.
Monday – “Be Trustworthy “- Friends help friends STAY drug free. Match your friends and dress alike.
Tuesday  “Support Cancer Research” - Wear pink to show your support for cancer awareness.
Wednesday– “College Not Drugs!”- Wear your favorite college t-shirt to show you are committed to choosing education.
Thursday– “Team Up Against Drugs!”- Wear your favorite team t-shirt to show you are committed to working as a TEAM.
Friday– Kelly Lane Spirit” – Support all of our teams at Kelly Lane by wearing your favorite Kelly Lane shirt! Go Knights!

Classroom Needs:

Several parents have asked about specific needs for the classroom. Right now, I'm happy to accept any of the following, (and if you have other things that need a home, feel free to ask or send it!) As we get into more specific projects, we'll have additional needs:

USED items are wonderful! Please don't feel like you have to buy new. :)

    LEGO bricks
    Clipboards
Ziploc bags - sandwich, quart, or multiple sizes.
    Dish soap
    Dish brush
    Plastic bowls (microwave safe/reusable)
    Plastic plates (microwave safe/reusable)
    Mixing bowls
    Wax paper
    Cooling rack
    Kleenex

And here's my Classroom Wish List from Amazon. It's a wish list, not a need list. ;)

Free STEM Learning Event!

Event full. 😥 Watch for Spring Opportunity!!

Austin Community College is partnering with Verizon and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) to offer a free hands-on STEM learning event for middle school students.  The event will take place on November 5th at our ACC Highland Campus.

ACC hosts a summer camp through our Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers program every summer.  This year we are hosting a one-day workshop that will allow students to experience a day of camp. Students who attend the event will be given first access to information on signing up for the 2023 free summer camp.

If your student is interested in attending the November 5th workshop, you can use the link below to RSVP. Upon receiving your RSVP, we will send you the logistics and schedule for the event.
